When it occured to me (when doing a historiography paper this was) that Hegel's triad wasn't in fact, a triad at all, as you point out, I did think it was sort of the the social/histprical/cultural equivelent of Kuhn's theory of scientific paradigms. But actually maybe Popper is a better comparison.
