Eliezer Yudkowsky just kicked it up a notch:
"Blood for the blood god!" screamed Neville. "Skulls for the skull throne! Ia! Shub-Niggurath! The enemy's gate is sideways!"

...

"I am Neville, the last scion of Longbottom!" screamed Neville to the sky above, holding his wand pointed straight up as though to challenge the blazing blue heaven itself, knowing that nothing after this day would ever be the same again. "Neville of Chaos! Face me if you da-"

I'd initially been rather annoyed by what appeared to be an obvious howler in the genetics in Chapter 23. However, I see that said howler has been commented on both on Less Wrong and on fanfiction.net's discussion page, and Eliezer still hasn't edited the chapter or his notes on it (or responded to the comments, AFAICT). This leads me to suspect that he knows it's a howler, and put it in deliberately, and that Harry's subsequent realisation of his error will turn out to be an important plot twist with a Strong Moral Point.

I'd also wondered if the battles will be used somehow to illustrate the Twelve Virtues of Rationality, but rereading that piece, I don't think it could fit.
