Yesterday I went for my first post-Edinburgh hillwalking trip. It was also my first ever hillwalking trip as leader. In all, I think I can claim a qualified success - though we didn't make it to the top of either of the Munros we were aiming for, neither of us was injured, we didn't get lost, we made it back down in plenty of time for the train (too much time, actually: in retrospect, we turned back far too early), we had a good day's exercise out in the fresh air, and we did climb a couple of nice Corbetts as a consolation prize. On the way back, we walked along a section of the West Highland Way, which turned out to have some interesting stuff on it - an abandoned lead mine, and a lochan into which Robert the Bruce supposedly threw his sword before the battle of Dalrigh (he won anyway).
